In earlier blogs I expressed a strong suspicion that there were three brothers who came from Ireland with our Patriarch Stephen Cessna. Stephen Sisney and John Cessna were already well known to us because of multiple references in Carlisle and Shippensburg.
My confusion came with references to Charles Cessna, Jr and at least three John Cessnas appearing in the records of Bedford County during the war. It has now been established that William Cessna, brother of Major John and Col. Charles, had a son, John Cessna and daughter, Elizabeth Cessna. Col. Charles Cessna seems to have an eldest son named Charles, who stayed behind when the family moved to Georgia in 1784. His descendants record his life as between 1764 and 30 July 1837 (in Bedford County). William Cessna moved to live by Col Charles in Georgia in 1790. With him came his daughter Elizabeth (referenced in her Grandfather’s will) who married John Robinette in GA; and his son John (also referenced in his Grandfather’s will). I HAVE MADE CORRECTIONS to earlier blogs. I have also re-edited the book Reconstructed Census. Anyone who purchased that book may write to House of Cessna Publishing, 6118 Edith Blvd NE, #187, Albuquerque, NM 87107 and request a free replacement copy. |
